About Triangle Tennis Club

Triangle Tennis Club (TTC) was founded in 2004 as the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area's first Gay and Lesbian tennis club. Our goal is to advocate the welfare of the community by promoting Tennis within the Gay and Lesbian community in the Triangle. We are also a proud member of The Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance (
GLTA).

TTC meets every Friday evening, weather permitting, from 7-9PM at the
Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in North Raleigh. The members also participate in a variety of USTA and GLTA tournaments throughout the year. TTC is also host to the Crape Myrtle Tennis Classic, a GLTA-sanctioned tournament held in October of each year.

Beyond tennis, TTC participates in and helps sponsor many community events throughout the Triangle. Since its founding, our club has grown to more that 50 members, ranging in skill ratings from 2.5 to 4.5+. We continue to welcome new members of all ages and skill levels. If you have more questions, feel free to e-mail us at

Club Schedule

TTC is currently on Winter Break, with no scheduled weekly club play.  As always, we encourage our members to get out and hit informally on those warmer days.   Club play is scheduled to resume in early March, weather permitting.

Check back in late February for more information on the 2012 club play schedule, as well as a start-of-season kick-off gathering.

Tennis Trivia

You are playing a match, and hit your first serve into the net. The ball rolls to a stop on the court.  You and your opponent agree not to bother retrieving the ball at this point.

Defying the odds, your opponent hits a return that causes the ball in play to hit the stationary (dead) ball from your first serve.  What should you do?

Answer
Get to the ball in play as soon as possible and hit it before it touches the ground again -- it is still a live ball!

If you and your opponent both agreed to leave the first ball on the court, it becomes part of the court surface.
Therefore, if the ball in play hits it, it is the same as if the ball hit the court.  You must contact the ball in play before it hits the ground again, or your opponent wins the point.

As low as the probability is of your opponent hitting the dead ball with the ball in play, your chances of hitting the ball in play after it bounces off the dead ball are even worse, as it will likely take a low and abnormal bounce off that ball.  In other words, if you think there's any chance of the dead ball interfering with the point, go pick it up before your 2nd serve!
